Oral diseases can attack your smile and alter your oral health. In fact, they can also affect the health of your entire body. For example, gum disease is a serious dental issue that has also been found to be linked to health issues like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, respiratory disease, and more. So, if you want a strong smile and healthy body, it’s important to care for your mouth and prevent oral diseases. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Scott Timmons & Justin Gangestad, has some tips for you.
First, keep up on oral hygiene. All you need to do is brush twice a day, floss and rinse daily, and visit your dentist every six months. As you perform these oral hygiene tasks, use a soft-bristled toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, a flossing tool that’s easy to use, and antibacterial mouthwash. Your oral hygiene routine will wash away the harmful substances that try to promote oral diseases.
Second, have a healthy diet. This is important because a healthy diet can supply the nutrients you need to fight oral disease, like vitamins A and C. So, try to eat more dairy products, fruits, and vegetables and do your best to cut out more high-carbohydrate foods.
Third, avoid tobacco. As you may already know, smoking can increase your risk of having lung cancer, but it can also increase your chances of having gum disease and even oral cancer. In addition, it can promote tooth loss and cavities. So, it’s best to avoid smoking and using tobacco altogether.
