At Baxter Dental in Baxter, Minnesota, we see many people setting out to travel in the summertime. Whether you are fishing in our own Superior National Forest, or hiking alpine meadows in Switzerland, preparation is key to keeping your smile confident. To protect your oral health, Dr. Timmons and Dr. Carlson and our team have some tips to help you pack for your trip. We want to help you keep the confident smile you have worked hard to achieve!

Smile Essentials While Traveling:

— Disposable toothbrush to keep those pearly whites clean.

— Travel-size toothpaste to remove bacteria and create good breath.

— Compact dental floss to clean in between teeth and along the gumline.

— Mini-mouthwash to kill germs and lower acid levels in the mouth.

— Sugar-free gum after meals when brushing isn’t an option (it stimulates saliva flow which cleans the teeth and attracts food particles and bacteria).

— When traveling to places where the water isn’t safe to drink, use bottled water to hydrate and brush teeth with. Hydration is key to preventing dry mouth.

— Night guards and retainers.

— A dental emergency filling/crown repair kit.

— While wearing braces, bring tooth picks or floss-picks, orthodontic wax, an extra clear plastic aligner tray where needed, and check ahead to have the name, phone number and address of an orthodontic office where you will be staying.

— When traveling to a developing country or remote areas without access to good dental care, a dental exam and cleaning before you leave is a good idea, especially for those with gum disease.
